Build Aspect

The JBL SB271 is a 2.1 channel soundbar system with a wireless subwoofer and 220 watts of power. The soundbar is an elegantly designed unit featuring a total of 4 drivers. 2 drivers are oval shaped and perform mid range duty while other 2 are 0.5″ in size and a re dedicated tweeters. Protecting the drivers is a metal grill on the front. On the other hand the wireless subwoofer is made of MDF and has a 5.25″ driver with a down firing configuration, the subwoofer unit has its own amplifier built in and needs to be connected to mains to work. Connectivity options include HDMI ARC, Bluetooth, Optical input modes. Surprisingly analogue input like RCA and Aux are absent.

Performance Aspect

This is a serious soundbar and we expect it to sound good consistently at all volumes. Lets talk bass first, the wireless subwoofer is easy to place and we are happy to report it puts out decent thump and bass. Having said that the bass has a bit of overhang and it sound bloated at louder volumes. Moving on to the highs, they are simply spectacular. The treble is airy and very focused. The cymbals and hi hats are well pronounced and yet the do not sound piercing, it is simply majestic. Likewise the mid-range is natural albeit a bit boosted bringing life to dull vocals and lead instruments and making others sound a smidgen too loud. On the whole it is a very dynamic and capable system and is definitely worth it if you are looking to buy a new soundbar.
